RoboCop is now part of the MK11 roster, so like Spawn, here's some of his back story.
Before he became a cyborg, RoboCop was Alex J. Murphy. He was just transferred over to the Detroit Police Department, and assigned a partner, Anne Lewis. His first day on the job, Alex and Anne are called in to go after a man named Clarence Boddicker and his gang, who are trying to get away after pulling a heist. The chase leads them to an old warehouse, where Anne decided not to wait for backup This is referenced in one of his opening banters in MK11. He ends up being outmatched and outnumbered, having his arm blown off with a shotgun, multiple gunshot wounds, and finally a pistol shot to his head. Although they tried to save him, he died from his injuries.
Omni Consumer Products, known as OCP, basically ran the police force. Hence, they could do whatever they wanted. They saw the deceased Murphy as the perfect candidate for the RoboCop project, given his experience as an officer, and his sense of duty, thus being resurrected as RoboCop. Though they think he had his memory wiped, it wasn't. He becomes aware of who he was and the life he can no longer live.
RoboCop has three Prime Directives.
Directive 1: Serve The Public Trust
Directive 2: Protect The Innocent
Directive 3: Uphold The Law
Directive 4: *CLASSIFIED*
If you guys wanna watch the first film, great. Do so, because it's a cyberpunk masterpiece. The second one is good, just not great. RoboCop 3 has like two or three good scenes in it. The remake is meh, like most remakes. He's had video games (including RoboCop Vs. The Terminator on Genesis and SNES) two animated series, one TV series, and a four part mini series that saw him as obsolete and it was boring as fuck. Long story. Essentially 6 hours of him getting his ass kicked and somehow winning.
As far as weapons, he has his sidearm, the Auto 9, his Data Spike in his fist, and his left arm can be swapped out for a assault rifle/flamethrower/grenade launcher weapon.

I watched the first and second movie but it was so long ago that I've forgotten most of the content. It would be a good revisit. The MK ending for Robocop was a good one because he enlisted help from the special forces to take down the corrupted company
