Seems I may have spoken too soon, in precisely why May is Dennis Hopper Memorial Month. My 'indeed very beautiful' (in Kunzite's words!) furbaby boy, Yoshimoto Imagawa Farrell... just had a similar episode, to that which Mel had on his penultimate day. He's almost as skinny as the ailing Blinky was, and he still spends a dangerous amount of time sitting in his cardboard box - mom previously said not to worry about his length of time in the cardboard box, especially as he's now getting up a bit and even meowed for me a few times yesterday... but now, I'm worried...

I just spoke with my mom a few minutes ago, she says to watch Yoshimoto for a week... and if he's still not well, then we'll have another look at him. Obviously, yes I'll monitor him with military precision, as well.

However, yes I have also given mom the most important instruction: if we have to let Yoshimoto go, then it cannot be on an airing day or within a final countdown. Mom agrees to that, and promises to check with me first. I'll Email her and my dad with the full marching orders later, after I start the final countdown.

update: I just spoke again with mom, as it turns out the vet is closed today and tomorrow for the May Day weekend - but I can give her a nudge after my airing on Tuesday, and we'll think then about taking Yoshimoto to the vet. Mom does understand, I normally wouldn't panic like this - but, well, it's the final countdown!

If decisions have to be made, then mom promises it'll be done on Wednesday. Otherwise, if we still wait a week or so, then mom will still check with me first before booking the sad appointment.

Now, it may be tricky to talk kittens with the pandemic still on - mom is worried about the breeder (and possibly the kittens as well?) potentially having the virus, which I can understand. But if mom gives the green light to that, then yes I'm cool with it - but with airings still imminent, tradition is very clear that the kitten must have a Capcom name...

What happened? I thought Yoshimoto was a young cat?

He's only 3, but he's suddenly become skinny like Blinky was. Thunder isn't even running around my apartment either, so he must know something is amiss...

Mom's, ahem, crap choice of cat litter (she did my grocery shopping for me, while our region was still in lockdown) didn't help either - but even after we resolved his bathroom issues, he's still quieter than usual; and he doesn't always meow (he shrieked, though, when I accidentally trapped his paw while he was still a kitty), but he has meowed at my games room door a few times lately.

And I just spoke again with my parents, mom still wants to give Yoshimoto a week or so... but I'll see if I can still twist her arm, to come and check on him after my airing tomorrow anyway.

Again if decisions have to be made, mom completely understands I do NOT want Yoshimoto to end up like Dennis Hopper - she deeply promises, to check with me first about letting Yoshimoto go. But if it does come to that, then yes she wants me to take pictures of him - remember, my family usually takes our cats' final pictures if the Grim Reaper is in the area, the only exception being Raul (who, himself, was Yoshimoto's predecessor!) as even simply taking him to the vet was a rushed decision.

Update: Yoshimoto had an accident, just before my airing (which went well) - so I've spoken with Gran, and she's going to help twist mom's arm about vetting him. She said something about him possibly having an infection (though how infections can cause accidents is beyond me?), and to get him medication for it; plus, maybe the infection could affect him possibly being too weak, to push the flap in the litterbox - hence me having to gently push him into the litterbox myself.

As luck would have it, my parents might visit her later (they're having another drive, now more lockdown restrictions are being lifted) - they phoned her in the last few minutes of my airing, to say they may drop by. If they don't, then Gran will phone them at their house.

Gran also shares mom's concerns, about if we do need to talk kittens. But I'm still okay either way, whether mom thinks I can have one now, or to wait until the pandemic ends.

I did explain to her, about tradition making clear how the kitten must a Capcom name if it's an airing gift - like how we had Jasper (who shares his name with a Dead Rising character) and Thunder (named after T Hawk, and with the middle name 'Vergil' because we had him during the quest to unlock Cody's Vergil costume) as airing gifts. She's unsure about me naming a cat 'Ken', though - but would 'Dante' suffice, on account of Ken's Dante costume (Gran even got me two black pouches, with the name 'Dante' in gold on them)?

It also depends on what the cat looks like - she could look like a Fiona or a Hsien-Ko, or he a Wesker (which also sounds similar to 'whisker') or an Alex. For gender-neutral names, I most like either Abigail (Abi-GAIL!!), or Magoichi.

True - and I do realise (and hope!) that. This reminds me of when Raul was a kitty - for some reason, mom suddenly noticed he was ill, but yes he did recover...

But when Blinky, Raul and Mel were taken ill... much as I hoped for the best, I also prepared myself in my mind, for if we needed to talk kittens. Much as I may think I'd need to talk kittens, Yoshimoto may still recover... I know there's always still a chance I'd need to talk kittens, as I try to remain positive and hopeful.

And yes, in most cases my family does get a new kitten, if we lose one cat - we've even had an 'heir apparent' (and eventual successor) here and there, if we worried for the health of some of our cats. As well as to fill the sad void, it's so the other cat doesn't feel lonely (especially, of course, whenever we go out) - some of our cats have been known to pine, when the other passes away.

When my parents called to check on Mel, on his penultimate night... mom also supported my decision, to take pictures of Mel 'just in case'. Again, in most cases (the only exception was Raul, as mom's decision to vet him was a bit rushed - and, just as I thought, it was a one-way trip...) my family usually takes a cat's final pictures - does anyone else ever do this?

Then, when dad came to collect Mel, on the morning of his last day... I told dad I believe he and mom, if they think he's got an upset stomach - but if we need to talk kittens, we can do that when he and mom return from vacation (remember, they jetted off on the day after I lost Mel). Dad replied, by saying "That was very brave..." - awwww bless! Well I didn't mean it in the 'bravery' sense, it was moreso in case my parents wanted my verdict, for if we did need to talk kittens - but if dad thinks that was brave of me, well I'm touched 0:-)

Yoshimoto is still very frail, and we can unfortunately confirm he's too weak to push the flap on the litterbox. He spent most of my airing this morning in his new hiding spot, only emerging to eat and/or drink (we can confirm, at least he's eating); and after the airing finished, he started 'sniffing around' - so I very carefully directed him to the litterbox, he went straight in (I removed the flap).

If there's still no real improvement by Friday, mom will come and check on him then - unless I wave a more serious red flag beforehand. Hmmm, should I also ask her to clip his nails? And yes, obviously, May 17 -and when I begin the final countdown on my late cat Raul's birthday May 16- is now also not an option for decisions to be made.

For the cat owners among you, have any of you had this problem with your felines - if so, can you guesstimate anything (like how my parents guesstimated Mel to have an upset stomach, which was close enough as the vet diagnosed a stomach blockage)? Yoshimoto is only 3, so this is all the more worrying...

Gran also tells me, my uncle Grahame's friend's cat had similar problems, but it recovered.

update: my parents will drop by this afternoon, to check on Yoshimoto. My dad was on Facebook this morning, so I phoned him to say good morning... and despite mom's initial decision to check by Friday, dad asked how Yoshimoto is, so I gave him the update - and he said he'd have a word with mom.

But right after my phone call with dad, Yoshimoto had another accident ON MY LONG-SLEEVED LIVE ACTION STREET FIGHTER MOVIE SHIRT - so I let my parents know about this, and dad said he and mom will see me this afternoon. They'll take a look at him first, before deciding if we need to vet him - but if we have to let him go, yes they understand not to do so today...

My parents visited as promised... and after checking Yoshimoto over, they think he just has an infection, no vetting needed at the moment. But just to be safe, mom will give the carpets in my apartment (including in the games room, where my cats aren't allowed) a good vacuuming - I'd probably ask the new cleaner we hired (one of my real life friends actually, who himself has a cleaning job), but he hurt his back while helping my parents in their garden, and he still has a sore back so it may be a while before he can start.

They are not angry at me - not even for having to break my promise, to keep quiet about Yoshimoto's sickness until Friday. But I did explain to mom, about dad asking about Yoshimoto when he phoned this morning... and playfully suggested for mom to point fingers at dad (i.e. for my having to break my promise), if anyone LOL

Tell me about it! Yoshimoto did it again today, I carefully had to move him off of some plastic boxes my mom brought over... and he did his business on my laundry. Poor kitty...

Gran has also suggested, he may have chills on his kidney - WTF, that actually sounds scary...

And for anyone who might tell me not to delay taking Yoshimoto to the vet, mom is going to take him there today. They're not open at the moment, but Yoshimoto is somehow getting a bit... senile, so I alerted mom and she said she'll take him later on.

If the hard decision has to be made today, then I hereby consent to that - my next airing day is Tuesday, which means the final countdown is 1:56 p.m. Monday. Please pray for my sick baby...

I would be unhappy too especially if it happens often and the clothing was expensive

Such was the case, in this matter - my Street Fighter movie shirts being his prime target. Rest assured, I was still gentle with my sick cat - I knew something was genuinely wrong with him.

I have asked mom, if the vet said what was wrong with him - she says they didn't know...

Need a good stain remover? Bleach always helps

Was that a joke, aimed at the Bleach fans here...?

But doing the laundry is better recommended, IMO. While Yoshimoto targeted my clothes, I've had to do one or two rounds of laundry!

I know it's been nearly two months since the last post... but since it turns out Yoshimoto has advanced kidney disease, should we keep on praying for him?

The charity knows they can't keep him going forever... but for what little time he still has, they have put him on a specialist diet (and his fosterer gives him chicken treats - he has even jumped in the fridge to get the chicken!). They have thanked me for getting in touch, and have said they'd let me know how he's doing. But they do like his successor, Jasmine!
